The collaboration between the Department of Hepatology, ILBS and the WHO would enable systematic collection and analysis of community and hospital based data on hepatitis A, B, C and E in this region, including various aspects of transmission, prevention, and treatment specific to low resource settings. In addition, disease burden and economic burden modules would be developed which would help in developing rational regional policies. Further, such data would help WHO in developing guidelines and recommendations on these aspects of diseases and formulate policies accordingly. The collaborating center will also serve as a resource center for training of different categories of personnel in relation to viral hepatitis and liver diseases.
